Who or What inspires your Confidence, Drive & Ambition?
For the most part my confidence comes from within. Placing emphasis on getting it from a person or thing would give that person too much power and responsibility over the way I feel about myself. My drive and ambition comes from what I believe…which is that I have something important to contribute to the art and fashion world. I feel I have a voice and a vision that’s important and uniquely my own. Everything starts from within but when I put out my work and see the support & positive response it gives me that extra push. When I see how my work touches people: making them think, feel something or sparking a discussion that’s when I’m even more inspired to keep doing what I do.
MD: What an incredibly thoughtful response.
Who is killing the fashion game for you currently?
Kristen Noel Crawley is forever killing the game. I hope I’m just as stylish when I reach her age and stage in life. I also admire Solange’s style creativity.
How did you make your first dollar?
My first job was working in a group home for young people struggling with life issues like domestic abuse, substance abuse & mental health. I was 16 and only a few years old than the kids staying there. Reading their files and seeing what they went through really humbled me at times. My first style job? Steaming 13 wedding dress as the assistant of an Editor-At-Large of a top Canadian Fashion Magazine.
What’s the last thing you binged watched?
It’s a tie between my latest addiction, a true crime show Vanity Fair Confidential and old episodes of Love & Hip-Hop New York. Its a nice yin and yang to switch in between.
Superhero power you’d like to have…
Telepathy. I’m always curious to know what’s on people’s minds. That and “invisibility” would be an amazing combo.
How do you deal with negativity…especially as a model?
I accept the fact that I’m not for everybody. A lot of people won’t understand so I just focus on the ones that do. I also get that blatant negativity from a stranger is more a reflection of them than me.
How much money per year is enough?
I don’t have a number. I don’t need to be obnoxiously rich but I want the freedom to travel, live comfortable and only do exactly what I want to do.
Flat or Heels…
Heels are the exception; flats are the reality.
NYC, Paris or L.A?
It’s really close between NYC and L.A but I think L.S wins even though I’ve never been.
Your go to Nail and Lip Color?
I really don’t wear makeup so I don’t have a fav but I love a clean white manicure and “Alpine Snow“ by OPI is always good for that.
Coffee, Tea or Champagne?
Green Tea in Daytime; Champagne at night.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
Definitely not. You can fall for someone quickly but not in love with a total stranger.
Your junk food must..
Candy!!! Skittles, Snickers…I’m not picky.
And finally if you could have dinner with anyone alive or dead who would they be and what’s on the menu?
Jesus! I mean, who wouldn’t? I can’t imagine the clarity and perspective I’d have after that. And food wise something easy like pizza or sushi so we can focus on the conversation.
